Saturday’s PFL main event at the Rizal Memorial Stadium saw United City FC and One Taguig FC play to a thrilling 2-2 draw, bringing the battle for the 5th spot down to the wire.
The game started with a bang as One Taguig FC took the lead immediately. In just the 2nd minute, Tsukasa Shimomura found the back of the net, capitalizing on a Stephan Schrock assist that left the United City defense scrambling.
The early goal stunned UCFC, but they quickly regrouped and pushed for an equalizer. Their efforts paid off in the 11th minute when Troy Limbo scored a superb goal, bringing the score to 1-1.
The remainder of the first half saw both teams creating opportunities but failing to convert them into goals. The match was evenly poised at halftime, with both sides demonstrating their attacking intentions and defensive resilience.
The second half started with high intensity, and the dynamics of the game shifted significantly in the 51st minute. Kevin Ingreso of One Taguig FC was shown a red card, reducing his team to ten men. This turning point gave United City FC a numerical advantage, and they quickly looked to capitalize on it.
In the 63rd minute, Ricardo Sendra put United City FC ahead with a clinical finish, making it 2-1. Sendra’s goal came after sustained pressure from United City, who were relentless in their attacks following the red card. With the lead in hand and an extra player on the field, it seemed like United City would secure all three points.
However, One Taguig FC showed eagerness to make things level. Despite being a man down, they continued to fight and were rewarded in the 76th minute. Naoto Hiraishi scored a well-deserved equalizer, making it 2-2 and setting up a thrilling final quarter of the match.
The closing stages of the game were marked by end-to-end action, with both teams seeking a winner. United City FC, with their numerical advantage, pressed hard but were met with the defense from One Taguig FC. The final whistle blew with the scoreline of 2-2, a fair reflection on how close the gap is between the two teams.
UCFC will face 9th place Maharlika FC next week, while One Taguig FC will close out their inaugural season with two fixtures: Manila Digger on Wednesday and Tuloy FC on Sunday.
