One Taguig put up a solid masterclass in giving Loyola its biggest defeat this season with a 7-1 hammering in the first of the Sunday doubleheaders at the Rizal Memorial.
The Lighthouse lit up the Adriatico with their clinical finishing to stifle the returning league pioneers, as they won their sixth in ten matches to tighten their hold on sixth place on the table. It was made even more impressive given that they did it in the presence of the city’s chief executive.
Forward Tsukasa Shimomura put Taguig ahead in the eighth minute with a clinical header from a Stephan Schröck cross and then completed his brace 15 minutes later after latching onto Yannick Tuason’s ball to the six-yard box, making it 2-0 in next to no time.
Loyola then halved their deficit just before the stroke of halftime when forward William Winter picked off Jordan Jarvis and pounced on Quincy Kammeraad being off his line, lofting the ball into the empty net.
But any hope for the Rambling Pack of making a comeback was silenced in stoppage time when Jahanbakhsh Taher gave Taguig their third from a clear offside position, heading home a Kevin Ingreso free kick to restore their lead before halftime.
Taguig then put themselves into overdrive at the restart. Midfielder Arnel Amita opted for muted celebrations after scoring their fourth in the 50th minute out of respect for his former side, with whom he won the old UFL Cup back in 2013.
Halftime substitute Andres Aldeguer then only took eleven minutes to score his double in the same way Shimomura did, hiking Taguig’s lead to 6-1 with eleven minutes left.
Finally, Misagh Bahadoran ended a long wait for his PFL goal since the inaugural season in 2017, heading home their seventh deep into injury time.
