Champions Kaya-Iloilo have surged to the top of the Philippines Football League by sweeping their Campo Alcantara doubleheaders, with Philippine Air Force their latest victim, routing them by nine goals without reply in Pavia on Wednesday afternoon.

The league pioneers wasted no time imposing their will against their old rivals, who are a shell of themselves. Jarvey Gayoso scored four goals in a dominating performance as they secured their fifth win, extending their unbeaten run to six matches and moving to 16 points.

Kaya took the lead just 12 minutes in when Gayoso turned provider, neatly dropping Jovin Bedic’s cross from the left wing to an onrushing Marwin Angeles, who tapped in the opener from just 8 yards out.

Gayoso then doubled their lead seven minutes later, brushing aside Rodolf Bebanco to put more misery on former college rival Zaldy Abraham. The former Ateneo man hit it on the near-post past the ex-UST netminder.

Kaya made it 3-0 in the 28th minute, and Gayoso completed his brace with a trademark left-footed effort deflected off Patrick Salenga, practically securing all three points at halftime.

The massacre in uptown Iloilo continued at the restart, with Gayoso scoring twice in a four-minute stretch after Mar Diano’s 61st-minute strike extended their rout to 6-0 after 72 minutes.

Afterward, they scored three more goals, with Bandiougou Konate opening his account in the 78th minute, Marwin completing his double just seconds later, and Do Kyung Lee putting the finishing touches four minutes before full time.
