It may not have been the most comfortable 5-0 win ever, but Cebu FC can safely say they secured the 3 points they desired from their game against Philippine Air Force FC in today’s PFL action.
The Airmen emerged defensively organized and well-drilled, stifling Cebu’s vaunted attacking front for much of the first half, except for one moment in the 18th minute, with Chima Uzoka heading in from a free kick delivered by Guytho Mijland on the left flank near the touchline.
However, the second half told a different tale, and the second goal served as a warning of things to come; Antonio Albor inadvertently deflecting the ball into his own net while attempting to clear a low cross from Cebu’s Ali Yanik. From then on, Cebu grew in confidence, pressuring the Airmen’s box, and their efforts bore fruit in the 64th minute; Rintaro Hama directing a low header past the Air Force defense. The game then settled down as the Airmen attempted, unsuccessfully, to pull one back.
The Giants added two more goals late on; the first a powerful strike from Guytho Mijland in the 88th minute off a short corner, and the fifth deep into stoppage time as an interception by Abou Sy was quickly fed out to late substitute Yoji Selman, who tapped it into the goal.
