In a battle of the PFL’s cellar-dwellers, Philippine Air Force FC came away with a comprehensive 8-0 thrashing of Manila Montet FC to cap off Saturday night’s football action at the Rizal Memorial Stadium. Jed Delariarte bagged a hat-trick, Angelo Obero and Jan Bernard Delariarte each scored two goals, and Eric Mauring chipped in with one to boost the Air Force’s goal tally.

The result ended an eight-match losing streak for the Airmen, their only other win being against Tuloy FC two months ago.

Philippine Air Force wasted no time, as Jed Delariarte latched onto a high ball and chipped it over Montet keeper Rafael Mamonong in the 7th minute. By the 11th minute, he secured his brace with an easy tap-in inside the 6-yard box after a Montet defensive miscue.

Obero tripled the Airmen’s advantage 13 minutes into the match, tucking home from a short corner into the near post. He then turned creator in the 37th minute, delivering a pinpoint cross for Jan Delariarte to head home.

The Airmen kept at it, even with a 4-0 advantage coming off the halftime break, but Montet did threaten at times. Reggie Sulit found the back of the net after 57 minutes, but his effort was deemed offside.

Mauring scored his first goal of the season for Air Force in the 63rd minute with a far-post header. Obero added a sixth in the 69th minute with a nice solo effort, brushing the Montet defense off and slotting past a sprawled Mamonong.

Jed Delariarte completed his hat-trick with 74 minutes played, finishing off a Kent Guevarra cross with his head, and set up his brother Jan’s second goal in the 80th minute with a finish inside the penalty area.

Philippine Air Force FC still holds the 14th spot but is now tied on 6 points with Tuloy FC. The Airmen will take on fellow Armed Forces side Philippine Army next Sunday at the Rizal Memorial Stadium. Manila Montet remains at the bottom of the PFL table but will have one last chance to put points on the board this season (and avoid the ignominy of a 0-0-14 slate) when they face Manila Digger on July 13.
